These calls are never easy.

Yesterday in the town of Westboro a 4 year old boy was found in a pool. The young boy drowned and was pronounced dead at the hospital. My heart goes out to the parents of this little boy. I don't know what's it's like but I can only imagine the pain they're going through. I also feel for my fellow paramedics and the other first responders who were on this call. Having done a pediatric drowning I know all too well the emotions that are probably running through their heads. I know they say that this our job, but seeing a kid die is never easy. If it doesn't get to you then you're most likely burnt out. I hope all those involved went through the proper stress debriefing and used it to for its a helpful tool. As for the parents only time will heal their wounds.
RIP little one. Just know that all those involved did everything they could.

Been awhile

So I know it's been a while since I've written anything. Just been a weird couple months. Nothing too exciting going on at work either. I will be back on here more frequently. Hope everyone has a good Sunday.

P.S
Is it football season yet?

Sometimes we have it lucky

So it's been a while since I've posted on here. Well after watching the news today I think I've got something to talk about.
So first off let me start off by saying that with the tornados in the Midwest ad south yesterday that all will be found and hopefully safe.
To those that were unfortunate to lose there lives hopefully their families find some peace.

With that being said, I know that being a first responder in the Northeast I consider us lucky.
That's not to say that the first responders up here don't see their fair share of the "good stuff" or tragedy. The tornados that went through western Mass were devastating but compared to what goes on in "tornado alley" that was tame. All of the police, fire and EMS communities were all willing to help but it wasn't needed as other areas in the country.
Sure we get some big snow storms, lose some power and man the shelters but rarely is a town just destroyed from snow. Yes they can be disabled from not being able to move but that really hasn't happened here. Sure we get the occasional hurricane but for the most part they weaken as they make their way up the coast. We've had some doozies but nothing compared to destruction of a tornado.
We in the first responder family have been lucky when it comes from this destruction. That being said it doesn't mean we don't plan for it, and continue to plan. We always need to be prepared for anything.
So to the first responders in the Midwest and south, continue the good work and stay safe yourselves.

Real Fans

Well I kept quiet about the Super Bowl until now. Yes the "almighty" Patriots lost. It wasn't all Welker's fault, nor all Brady's fault. That whole offense SUCKED. The defense actually kept the Pats in the game. So I just keep reading how this is the worst thing that has happened to the Patriots. REALLY?? How about if you actually gave a crap about this team before 2001 then you would know that the worst thing that has happened to this team was the stretch from the late 80's early 90's when the avg number of wins was 4. The years they went 2-14 and were the laughing stock of the league. How about as a kid I only saw 2 home games on tv a season because Foxboro wouldn't sell out. I thought the Pats only wore white jerseys. So maybe all you "bandwagon" fans should learn some team history before making comments. Yes they lost in the Super Bowl but at least they're making the big game and not 2-14. As for all the Pats haters. You all deserve to harass the Pats, because we all know that we will give it to you on your team. So we wait till next year for the Pats. I know that if they suck again I will still be rooting for them.

Wtf is wrong with people.

So it's been a while since I've had the inspiration to write a blog. Well this morning at work has brought that to me.
So while I'm doing my morning routine of checking out my ambulance. I notice a new medic who has worked here as a basic emt for several years. Well when I see him come downstairs its 745 am. The shift starts at 0700, I understand he went to the other garage but he even showed up there 15 mins late and when he showed here he decided to BS for 15 mins. Who do you think you are newbie get in the truck and check it out. Now this isn't the first rodeo for this cowboy attempting to become a paramedic with the company. Apparently his attitude was a deciding factor in him not making it. Well I see it hasn't changed.
When I first started my field internship I was kissing the paramedics asses. I knew all of them but i was the student so I had to act like i was just that a student. So finally when i became a paramedic i would have never acted the way these newbs act nowadays. I knew my job was to learn everything and to question what I didn't know. Now they just come in acting like they're gods gift to EMS. Show some respect to the job and the person(s) who is training you. The attitude from the ones who get promoted is even worse. "Why do i have to do that?" " I already know that from BLS". You know what, just shut up and learn. You are the new medic so stop acting like you've been doing this long. This lack of respect is aggravating towards ones who have earned what little respect they deserve.
I'm so glad I'm not an FTO because I'm not sure i could handle dealing with these "self entitled" folks.

Oh and on a final note. Tie your damn boots. Show some respect to the job you newb.

Sports rant #2

Not sure why I waited until today to make my opinion heard on the Bruins game, but anyway here it is.

So I wasn't fortunate enough to get to watch the game Saturday because I was working in the ambulance. I did listen to game so I had to watch all the controversy after the fact.
#1. So it's okay to spear somebody in the throat and then when Thorton defends himself he gets ganged up on 6-1. Yet the Bruins lose Lucic for the game because the refs made a call that they couldn't see. Yeah seems fair. Apparently the 3rd man in penalty just didn't seem warranted when there's 6 men. The refs must have thought since the rule says 3 then that's what they meant. The refs really sucked Saturday.
#2. Yes the hit from Marchand was dirty and uncalled for. He's done it before and has been penalized for it in the past. HOWEVER, for the bitches known as the Canucks need to watch their own house before throwing stones. Alain Vinault is going to call his players angels. He might want to watch the same stuff everyone else is.
His own players did the same play that Marchand did to the Bruins TWICE in the SCF.
He can take his crying and shove it. I'm sick of the NHL always placating to the canadian teams. They're part of the same league as everyone else. As for Bruins fans that think that Marchand shouldn't have been suspended, they need to stop thinking that everything that the home team does is gold. He screwed up and needs to pay. Do I think he warranted a 5 game suspension? Not at all. Welcome to the new NHL I guess.

Well hopefully the next blog will be about something paramedic related. We shall see.

Time for a change..... Maybe?

Today is not a regular shift for me. I somehow managed to pick 12 hours on a 911 truck. Doesn't happen very often. Yet all I see around me is change today. Things seem bleak around the company. Multiple different reasons which I will not get into on here. I know in my own personal heart that I still like working here. Yet my mind is telling me that maybe I should keep my options open. Now I know that there's a couple of services I will not work for, so let's make that clear to my lovely bride whenever she reads this. I could stay in this area for other services but nothing is on par. I could go up north and most likely get on one maybe even two 911 trucks, but then there's the commute, and pay and benefits to think of. Yet on the other hand I could be doing what I really want to do. Yet starting all over isn't all it's cracked up to be. So maybe I should change professions. I guess I'm still young enough to do it, yet having done this for over 10 years I'm set in my ways. Now this decision isn't just about me anymore. Now I have a wife and our future to think of. This isn't going to be easy, but eventually I need to figure something out. So I am going to go back to the truck and wait for my partner to finish up the report from this last run.
